허승범은 서울을 기반으로 활동하는 사진가다. 시카고예술대학(SAIC)에서 학사를 마쳤고, 홍익대학교 대학원에서 석사 과정을 하고 있다.
그의 작업은 무의식과 인간 내면의 풍경을 향한다. 20대 중반 질병으로 4년간 외부와 단절된 시간을 보내며 시작된 사진은 내면의 어둠을 정면으로 마주하는 일에서 출발했다. 악몽의 형상을 시각화한 《몽마》, 도시 한가운데에서 감각되는 우주적 고립을 담은 《콘크리트 성운》, 사물 속에 잠든 동물의 형상을 발견하는 《동물원 탈출기》로 이어지는 작업들은 어둠의 직시에서 회복으로 나아가는 하나의 긴 호흡이다.
Seungbeom Hur is a photographer based in Seoul. He received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is currently pursuing his graduate degree at Hongik University.
His work turns toward the unconscious and the inner landscape of human experience. Photography began for him in his mid-twenties, during four years of illness that cut him off from the outside world, and it started with the act of facing his own darkness head-on. Nightmare, which gives visual form to the shapes of bad dreams; Concrete Nebula, which holds the cosmic isolation felt in the middle of a city; and Found Animals, which discovers the figures of animals sleeping inside ordinary objects — together these bodies of work form one long breath moving from looking directly at darkness toward recovery.
